About Ayurveda |

A division of the Vedic literature that deals with health, literally "knowledge
of the totality of life". Originated in India approximately 3,000 years
ago. It is still a favored form of health care in India. Ayur means Life,
and the whole philosophy of Ayurveda is that the whole body must be
treated-body, mind and spirit. Ayurvedic medicine is both preventive and
curative. The preventive part emphasizes the need for a strict code of
personal and social hygiene. The curative aspect of Ayurvedic medicine
involves the use of herbal medicines, Yoga, and diet.

numerous herbs along with Coconut oil. There are also herbal powders and
juices, which are made into Arishtams (liquid portions) and Lahiams (thick
jellies), which can be consumed. The smells, extracts and flavors of these
herbs help in the various curative treatments which today attract people
from all over the world.

These
treatments are so popular that the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation
has started a 'Monsoon Rejuvenation' package for tourists, which combines
sightseeing tours with Ayurvedic massages and treatment. It is said that
Ayurvedic treatments are most effective after the Karkadakam or Monsoon
months because the body has less heat and hence is most responsive to
treatments. Massages are combined with right diet, rest, and relaxation-all
