Hampi |

Hampi
is renowned for the remains from the Vijaynagar kingdom belonging to the
medieval era and is situated in the central part of the state of Karnataka
in southern India. It is located 353 km from Bangalore, and 13 km from
Hospet and nestles on top of a mountainous terrain which lies 467 m above
sea level. Relics of the Vijaynagar kingdom, bestow the city its recognition
and fame because of which it has been designated as a World Heritage site.

» Virupaksha Temple : The Virupaksha Temple
located at the western edge is one of the earliest constructions of Hampi.
It is dedicated to Virupaksha, believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
The nearby Hemakuta hill has several scattered ruins which includes that of
Jain temples and a monolithic structure of Narasimha.
» Ugra Narasimha : The 6.7 metre tall monolith of
Ugra Narasimha looks very imposing. The Narasimha is a seated four-armed
figure under a canopy of a seven-hooded snake. The Lord has been depicted in
a very angry form here.
» Vithala Temple : Vittala temple has beautiful
sculptures exhibiting the richness of Vijayanagar Art. The outer pillars are
known as musical pillars. There is also a beautifully carved stone chariot
in the temple courtyard containing an image of Garuda.
» Hazara Rama Temple : This temple has been built
within a rectangular complex. The temple dates back to early 15th century
and has intricately carved basalt pillars that showcase the incarnations of
Shri Vishnu. There are also a few sculptures depicting events from the
Ramayana. The temples of Hampi, its monolithic sculptures and monuments,
summons travellers and historians from all parts of the world.

to be visited is the Tungabhadra dam (17 km from Hampi) which is built

between(April-June), winters falling between (October-February) and the
southwestern monsoon rains from June to August. To visit the place October

» By Air : The nearest airport at Tornagallu
in Sandur Taluk is at a distance of some 32 kms.from the place. The second
nearest airport is Bellary at a distance of 74 kms. As these are small
airports, availability of flights from different destinations must be
checked before making travel plans.
» By Trains : Hospet is the nearest rail head from
Hampi at a distance of 13 kms. Hospet is linked by rail to Bangalore,
Bijapur and Hubli.
» By Road : Hampi is 350 kms from Bangalore. Both
government and private buses are regularly available from Bangalore and
Hospet.

located in Kamalapuram area to the southeast of Hampi Bazaar. These guest
