Area : Kaziranga National Park, with its swamps, tall thickets of
elephants grass and evergreen forests, covers an area of approximately
430-sq-kms, making it the ideal habitat for the Indian One-Horned Rhino.
» Climate : The climate of Kaziranga park is
tropical. In summers the maximum temperature shoots up to 35 degree
centigrade and drops down to a minimum of 18 degree centigrade. In winters
maximum temperature is 24 degree centigrade and minimum is 7 degree
centigrade. Annual rainfall recorded in Kaziranga is 2300 mm.
» When to visit : The best time to visit Kaziranga
National Park is from mid-November to early April.
» Nearest Access : Bokakhat is the nearest town from
Kaziranga National Park, around 23 km away.

Home to one horned Rhinos, Kaziranga National Park is situated in
the northeastern state of Assam in India. The Kaziranga National Park is one
of the World Heritage Site, and houses world's largest population of
one-horned Rhinoceroses, apart from other mammals, including Tigers,
Elephants, Panthers and Bears, and thousands of birds. Declared a sanctuary
in 1940, Kaziranga was is one of the last areas in eastern India undisturbed
by a human presence. The park is situated on the bank of the mighty
Brahmaputra, which is an ideal haunt for those who love - River rafting,
Fishing & Angling, etc.

» The Flora : Tall thickets of elephant
grass and patches of evergreen forest are very common here. Water lilies,
water hyacinth and lotus are some delightful sights between the thick
patches of evergreen forests.

The Fauna : Apart from the one horned rhinos, the local population of
Indian Elephants, Indian Bison, Swamp Deer or Barasingha, Hog Deer, Sloth
Bears, Tigers, Leopard Cats, Jungle Cats, Otters, Hog Badgers, Capped
Langurs, Hoolock Gibbons, Wild Boar, Jackal, Wild Buffalo, Pythons, Monitor
Lizards, etc. You will also come across animal like barking deer, Sambar,
golden Langurs, Slow Loris, pygmy hog, capped langur and bears will keep you
busy through your park trip.
» The Avifauna : Kaziranga National Park is also
home to a large number of bird species. In the park you will meet - Oriental
Honey Buzzard, Black-Shouldered Kite, Black Kite, White Tailed Eagle,
Grey-Headed Fishing Eagle, Himalayan Griffon, etc. Migratory birds descend
in the park's lakes and swampy areas during winters. Besides, you will also
find Rock Pythons and many more varieties of snakes, Monitor Lizards and
Turtles there.

The Park Trip |
Elephant Safari or Jeep Safari are the two ways to explore the
Kaziranga National park. Boat cruises on the Brahmaputra, along the park,
are also popular.

Excursions from
Kaziranga |
Tourists can also visit the nearby areas of the Kaziranga, like the
Kakochang waterfalls, about 13 km from Bokakhat in the Jorhat district of
Assam. The ruins of the ancient Numaligarh (in the Golaghat district of
Assam), the lush coffee and rubber plantations of the nearby Karbi Anglong
are also interesting enough to visit. The tea gardens of Hathkhuli, Methoni,
Difalu, Behora Borchapori (all in Assam) are also finest places here to
visit.

Getting There |
» By Air : The nearest airport is situated
at Guwahati, around 217-km away from the park. The other airport is located
at Jorhat, 97-km from Kaziranga.
» By Rail : The nearest railhead is Furkating,
situated 75-km away from Kaziranga National Park.
» By Road : You can Take a bus or taxi from Guwahati
or Jorhat to the sanctuary. The main gate for Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary
is at Kohora on the NH-37. ASTC and private buses stop here on their way to
and from Guwahati, Tezpur and Upper Assam. Some private buses also retain a
seat quota for Kaziranga passengers.

lodges to the park entrance, as well as a system of variable camera fees. To
reach Kaziranga National Park, you will have to take a taxi or a bus from
the Guwahati or Jorhat airport or from the Furkating railhead. To make your
