Area : Keoladeo National Park, is a marshy area, stretching over 29 sq
km of forests, grasslands and shallow lakes.
» Climate : The overall climate of Keoladeo is
sub-humid to semi-arid. Summers are invariably hot and winters are not very
cold. During summers (April-June), the temperature ranges from 38°C to
45°C. The onset of monsoon (July-August) lowers the temperature to
about 27°C. Winter (October-March) season peaks after Christmas with
temperatures falling below 10°C. Rainfall is less but sufficient, the
average rainfall received in Bharatpur is approximately 495 mm but the
drought has become very frequent now a days.
» When to Visit : The ideal time to visit Keoladeo
National park is between the months of October to February, as the parks
migratory birds arrive during the winter.
» Nearest Access : The nearest town from the
Keoladeo National Park is Bharatpur about 2 km away.

surroundings. This is the best place on Earth to watch Birds. This former
duck-hunting reserve of the Maharajas is situated in the state of Rajasthan
in India.
Better known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park is
named after the temple located within its boundaries. The park is spread in
an area of 29 sq-km out of which 11 sq-km are marshes and the rest is
scrubland and grassland. Previously known as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary,
the park was declared a national park on 10 March 1982, and then as a World
Heritage Site in December 1985. Keoladeo is one of the major winter
vacationing areas for large numbers of aquatic birds from Afghanistan,
Turkmenistan, China and Siberia. About 364 species of birds, including the
rare Siberian crane, have been recorded in the park.

The Avifauna : The ambiance is just exhilarating. There are more than
375 species of birds in Keoladeo National Park. The natural beauty is just
breathtaking and the birds fluttering, singing, chirping all around makes it
almost next to heaven. You will meet dancing, singing, quarreling birds in
the surrounding of the park. You will also find the mother birds feeding
their babies. The entire surrounding is just mesmerizing and mind blowing.
Cranes, Pelicans, Geese, Ducks, Eagles, Hawks, Shanks, Stints, Wagtails,
Warblers, Wheatears, Flycatchers, Buntings, Larks and Pipits, etc are some
of the birds you will find here.
Besides, during the winters the population of the park increases by several
thousands, as the birds migrate from several cold countries to spend their
summers here. But, there is more to see here, the park also houses, some
rare species of fauna like - Sambar, Chital, Nilgai and Boar.

semi-arid region, therefore carry light cotton clothes for summers and
woolens for the winters. Vehicles are prohibited within park confines, so
walking through the park is a better option.
To reach Bharatpur, you need to take a taxi or a private vehicle from the
Agra airport or the Jaipur airport or from any other part of Rajasthan.
