Why Sikkim West ( Ancient Monasteries)
?
A consecration in the wilderness of 'Chogyal' or Dharma Raja, the birth of
a dynasty and the spread of Buddhism, West Sikkim has seen it all. West
district of Sikkim being wild and free is the base from where all the
journey into the wilds of the majestic Himalayas begin.
West Sikkim is probably the most enchanting and certainly the most sacred
place in the Eastern Himalayas. While all of Sikkim is beautiful, the West
can claim to be a shade more beautiful. Not merely because Mt.
Khangchendzonga stands tall and proud here but also because along with its
natural beauty , this is where Sikkim's legendry history actually began in
1641 A.D. with the coronation of the first Chogyal (King) of Sikkim by the
Three Great Lamas at Yuksam. Besides heritage sites and monasteries, West
Sikkim with its hills and valleys is surrounded by numerous gardens of
Orchids, Primulae, Rhododendrons, Magnolia and Cherry to name a few.
Innumerable butterflies flirt among the verdant woods lending color to the
green hue. West Sikkim is truly a favorite of the Gods, blessed with the
rich and natural heritage of Sikkim.
